Ansonia’s War Memorial Restored, Rededicated

John Redente smiled Sunday as he showed his wife, Sandy, his name on a bronze memorial plaque at the Woodbridge Avenue Honor Roll and War Memorial in Ansonia.

It’s been six months since he — or anyone — has seen the list of names honoring those who served in World War II and Vietnam, which appeared on two of the seven plaques at the memorial.

Ansonia Resident Gives Gift Of Kidney

PHOTO: Patricia VillersAnsonia resident Kristie Kennedy will donate a kidney to her neighbor and friend, Paul Lucuk, this week.

Lucuk, 51, suffers from stage 5 chronic kidney disease. The two are scheduled for surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital on May 17, according to a New Haven Register article.

Seymour Man Coaches Refugee Soccer Team In Africa

CONTRIBUTED PHOTOA group of California-based activists is trying to form a soccer team of Darfur refugees to compete in the Viva World Cup, an international competition for countries not in the World Cup.

And a social studies teacher from Seymour was picked to be one of the coaches.

Brian Cleveland, 30, spent the first week of April at a United Nations refugee camp in eastern Chad, coaching a ramshackle group of refugees on how to play soccer.

Operation Gift Cards Thanks The Valley Indy
