Residents Strongly Urged To Get Flu Shot

The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) announced that this year’s flu virus has thus far been particularly severe among people aged 65 and older, with that age group accounting for 70 percent of all patients who have been hospitalized with influenza.

Griffin Hospital To Host First Aid Class To Help Pets

Derby Mayor: Let’s Talk About A Regional School District

Mayor Rich Dziekan will be asking the Board of Aldermen to form a committee that will study whether to create a regional school district with Ansonia and Derby.

Aldermen will take up the issue at their next meeting, scheduled for Feb. 8.

Suicide Awareness Workshop In Derby Jan. 30

Pay Stub Bank Robber Faces Four-Year Sentence

Steven Gomez-Maya walked into the TD Bank North in Seymour one morning last August and handed the teller a note.

“This is a robbery, give me 5,000 nobody gets shot,” it read. So the teller gave $500 cash to Gomez-Maya.

But detectives had him in handcuffs within hours after discovering the note he left at the bank was written on the back of his girlfriend’s pay stub.

The 20-year-old now faces up to four years in prison when he is sentenced for the robbery after taking a plea deal in the case last week.

‘Four Chaplains’ To Be Remembered

American Legion Emil Senger Post 10 and Catholic War Veterans St. Michael Post 1562 are honoring the “Four Chaplains” of the U.S. Army Transport Dorchester, a transport ship that was torpedoed by a German U-boat in 1943.

The four chaplains comforted, inspired and guided the men as the ship sank.

Derby Aldermen Hold Off On New Salaries
