A Derby police car collided with another vehicle Wednesday, sending a civilian to the hospital.
The person’s injuries were described as “non life-threatening.”

Valley school officials voiced support for student-led school “walkouts” planned for Wednesday honoring the victims of last month’s school shooting in Florida.
Seventeen people were killed in the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. Feb. 14.

Derby police charged two siblings Sunday in connection to a “home invasion” that happened in December.
Frank Harris, 18, and his brother, Sheneal Thompson, 22, were charged with home invasion, first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, second-degree criminal mischief and sixth-degree larceny.

The impact of this week’s winter storm is still being felt in the Valley.
According to United Illuminating and Eversource — the two electric companies servicing the area — some people are still without power.
The storm rolled through the region Wednesday into early Thursday.

Derby Mayor Rich Dziekan and Archie Moore’s Bar & Restaurant raised $1,500 for The Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital Tuesday.
Dziekan was “guest bartender” at the Elizabeth Street restaurant for two hours. His tips and a percentage of sales during his shift were donated.

Derby Mayor Rich Dziekan’s office sent a message Tuesday saying the transfer station will be closed Wednesday and that garbage pickup has been postponed.
Also, free parking is available at the parking garage downtown Tuesday into Wednesday for anyone who wants to get his or her vehicle off the street. Click this link to read about Derby winter parking regulations.
The news comes as the region readies for a winter storm.
