Derby Resident Says He’ll Run For Mayor

It’s still a year until municipal election time, but Derby resident Mark Searles this week announced his plans to run for mayor in November 2011.
Searles, a 42-year-old Democrat, hasn’t received the nod from Derby’s Democratic Town Committee yet, but he says he will move forward with his plans with or without their support.
“I have such a groundswell of support,” Searles said.

One of them, straight-talking Republican Tony Szewczyk, would probably roll his eyes at the pretentious use of the phrase “bid adieu” in the sentence above.

Staffieri Leads Money Race In Derby

Derby —Incumbent Mayor Anthony Staffieri and the Republicans have an almost $18,000 fundraising lead on challenger Dan Foley, Jr. and the Democrats heading into Tuesday’s election.
The latest round of campaign finance disclosures were due Oct. 27.

What’s it have to do with Derby politics?
It could be used to describe the Derby Republicans’ strategy against Democrat challenger Dan Foley, Jr. — opting to throw bombs over his head, avoiding the head-on tackle.
