Oxford Hires Interim Superintendent

A former superintendent for Bridgeport Public Schools will lead the Oxford school district starting Monday.

The Oxford Board of Education Tuesday night appointed James A. Connelly, of Shelton, as the district’s interim superintendent.

School Superintendent Dr. Judy Palmer isn’t waiting to see if the Board of Education plans to keep her on in the district’s top spot — she was named Tuesday night to head the Region 7 school district.

She will replace Clinton A. Montgomery, who earlier this year announced his retirement.

Palmer’s Employment Extended To Aug. 13

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Judy Palmer will hold that post for at least the next two weeks.

During a rare Friday evening special meeting, the Board of Education voted to continue Palmer’s employment until at least Aug. 13 to give the board time to review its evaluation of her performance and vote on her future with the district.

More than 100 residents — many angry with the Board of Education’s handling of Superintendent Judy Palmer’s contract — attended the board’s public hearing on the issue Wednesday.

When it was over, many were more angry than when they arrived.
