Son, Mother Charged With Stealing From Elderly Family Member

Ansonia police say a Shelton woman and her son stole $200,000 from the woman’s mother over the course of three years.

Kristina Ukanowicz, 62, and Joseph Ukanowicz, 29, have been charged with first-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny in the case.

Shelton Police: Derby Man Arrested After Altercation With 5-Year-Old

A Father’s Day party at a Shelton daycare Friday ended with the arrest of a Derby man.

The man’s lawyer denies the charges and said he’ll be pleading not guilty in the case.

In a prepared statement, Shelton Police Detective Richard Bango said the Apple Tree Daycare on Long Hill Cross Road was hosting a party at which children gave their fathers cards for the holiday.

A 5-year-old playfully took a card that 33-year-old Lance Churchill’s son had made for him, Bango said. The child ran around the room with the card.

Retired Shelton Police Dog Dies

On Tuesday, June 13, Shelton Police retired K-9 Jager passed away.

K-9 Jager came to the department in 2008 partially through a donation from People’s United Bank. K-9 Jager was paired with his partner Detective Christopher Nugent. K-9 Jager was an asset to the department and assisted several local, state, and federal agencies during his career.

New Police Officer Hired In Ansonia

John Cannizzio was sworn in by Mayor David Cassetti during a police commission meeting June 7 after the commission voted unanimously to hire him.

Shelton Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested After Standoff

The man Shelton police suspect of robbing a bank last month was arrested Thursday after an armed standoff in Stratford.

In a prepared statement, Shelton Police Detective Richard Bango said the suspect, 24-year-old Bryce Laister, is scheduled to be arraigned at Superior Court in Derby Friday.

Shelton Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting Girl

A Shelton man was charged Sunday with sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.

In a prepared statement, Detective Christopher Nugent said 38-year-old Adam Besaw was charged Sunday (June 4) with first-degree sexual assault, two counts of second-degree sexual assault, and four counts of risk of injury to a minor.

Shelton Police: Burglary Suspect Could Face More Charges

An Oakville man charged with stealing equipment from a local company is a suspect in other thefts as well, according to Shelton police.

The man, Michael Petro, 45, was charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree larceny Sunday (June 4), Detective Richard Bango said in a prepared statement.

Sequeira Named Next Shelton Police Chief

FILE The man who has led Shelton police for more than a year as interim chief will have the “interim” deleted from his title next month.

The city’s Aldermen voted unanimously Thursday (May 25) to appoint Shawn Sequeira the city’s new police chief effective July 1.

SHELTON POLICEShelton police are asking the public to help identify a man who robbed a Bridgeport Avenue bank at gunpoint Tuesday (May 30).

In a prepared statement, Shelton Police Detective Richard Bango said that about 12:30 p.m., police received a hold-up alarm from the People’s Bank inside the Stop and Shop at 898 Bridgeport Ave.

Undercover Cops Make Drug Arrest In Shelton

A Shelton man was arrested Thursday (May 4) after police said they saw him buy cocaine downtown.
