Seymour Soccer Group Hosts Wine, Beer Tasting

Seymour Soccer Association is hosting a Wine & Beer Tasting benefit for local youth soccer on Saturday, May 19 from 7 to 10 p.m. at Villa Bianca located at 312 Roosevelt Drive, Rt. 34 in Seymour.

“Get Your Kicks” Tasting will offer samples of wine and beer and will draw for “you-gotta-have-them” door and raffle prizes.

Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door.

Attendees will enjoy live entertainment, including acoustic tunes by Sammy Blanchette. Raffle prizes will include a 40” LCD TV, a Kindle Fire, a Boston Red Sox donated, autographed color action shot of catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia accompanied by a pair of game tickets to a future Sox game at historic Fenway Park, and a week of soccer camp.

Seymour Pop Warner Registration

Seymour Pop Warner is holding registrations on May 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and May 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Registrations will be held at the Seymour Community Center.

Anyone who is between the ages of 7 to 15 is eligible for tackle football and cheerleading.

Shelton 5K To Benefit Food Bank, Track Teams

The 7th annual SHS 5K Fun Run for Food is on Saturday, June 2, at 9 a.m. beginning on the track in Shelton High School’s Finn Stadium. Some highlights include: a certified 5k race course, computerized timing & results by HI-TEK RACING, T-shirts to all registered runners, mile split times, and a water station.

There will be awards to the top three finishers in all categories, including age categories and SHS alumni. Children’s races begin following the 5K (approximately 10 a.m.): 100 meter dash, 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile. Walkers welcome!

Seymour Man Coaches Refugee Soccer Team In Africa

CONTRIBUTED PHOTOA group of California-based activists is trying to form a soccer team of Darfur refugees to compete in the Viva World Cup, an international competition for countries not in the World Cup.

And a social studies teacher from Seymour was picked to be one of the coaches.

Brian Cleveland, 30, spent the first week of April at a United Nations refugee camp in eastern Chad, coaching a ramshackle group of refugees on how to play soccer.
