12-Year-Old In Critical Condition After Being Struck By Car

A 12-year-old boy is in critical condition after being struck by a car in Shelton Thursday.

The boy was riding his bike when he was hit.

In a prepared statement, Detective Richard Bango said several people called 911 about 6:30 p.m. reporting a car had struck the boy near the intersection of Maltby and Gilbert streets.

The child was treated at the scene and transported to Yale New Haven hospital for serious injuries,” Bango said. The child is currently in critical condition. The child was not wearing a helmet at the time.”

Police did not identify the boy. 

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 34-year-old Monika O’Toole of Oxford, who remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Due to the serious injuries sustained by the child, the Shelton Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team was called to investigate,” Bango said. Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information is urged to contact the Shelton Police Department at 203 – 924-1544.”
