Buy Online, Meet At The PD

A man hoping to buy a cell phone was instead robbed at gunpoint, according to Ansonia police.

In a prepared statement, Lt. Patrick Lynch said about 8:30 p.m. Nov. 22 police received a 911 call reporting a stickup.

The victim told police he and a friend had gone to Rockwood Avenue to buy a cell phone that was listed on letgo, a website where users can sell secondhand goods.

The victims were approached by a white male who showed them a phone then a second male approached them, displayed a handgun and took the victims’ cell phones and cash,” Lynch’s statement said. The suspects fled in a dark colored small SUV.”

Police said a similar robbery was reported in Fairfield a week before.

Cops advised residents to exercise caution when arranging meet-ups to purchase or sell items.

The Ansonia Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind people that when setting up places to meet for the purposes of completing transactions like these, you should pick public places,” Lynch said. We encourage anyone who is going to meet in Ansonia to meet at the police department and use our lobby to complete the transaction.”
