Foley Took The Lower Valley By More Than 5,000 Votes

FILEConnecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy was re-elected Tuesday (Nov. 4) largely by winning big in cities like New Haven, Bridgeport, and Hartford.

The lower Naugatuck Valley was another story.

In the towns of Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour, and Shelton, Malloy’s challenger, Greenwich millionaire Thomas Foley, bagged 18,473 votes to Malloy’s 12,960, besting the incumbent governor by more than 5,000 ballots.

Joe Visconti, who ran a third-party candidacy for months before endorsing Foley on the eve of the election, took 382 votes Valley-wide.

Foley took Seymour, Shelton, and Oxford by large margins. Foley lost to Malloy in Ansonia and Derby.
