Video, Of Some Kind, Under Review In Bullying Case

FILEThe criminal case against a Shelton man police say paid a teenager $21 to assault a girl he says was bullying his daughter was continued to next month.

The man, Philip Prokop, 42, appeared briefly before Judge Paul Matasavage at Superior Court in Derby on Friday.

Prokop’s, lawyer, Frank Riccio, told Matasavage he is still reviewing evidence in the case.

There’s video that the state’s attorney’s office just obtained,” Riccio said, asking Matasavage to continue the case to Oct. 12 for investigation purposes.”

Judge Matasavage then continued the case to Oct. 12.

Prokop and Riccio declined to comment while leaving court, so it is unclear where the video is from or what it may show.

Prokop has asserted his innocence since his first court appearance in the case in July.

Police said then that in late May Prokop paid a 17-year-old girl $21 to fight a 13-year-old girl he believed was bullying his daughter.

The alleged fight took place May 26 in front of the Sassafras Diner, where police also said that Prokop grabbed another teen to stop her from getting involved in the fight.

Prokop was charged with inciting injury to a person, risk of injury to a minor and conspiracy to commit third-degree assault. He posted $10,000 bond in the case shortly after his arrest and pleaded not guilty at an earlier court appearance.
