When Esther Rozum began working at Seymour Town Hall in 1965, a gallon of gas cost about a quarter, a year’s tuition at Harvard was $1,760, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was less than 1,000, and Lyndon B. Johnson was president.
Forty-seven years — and 12 first selectmen — later, Rozum (pronounced ROSE-um) retired Thursday. More than 50 family, friends, colleagues, and officials gathered to congratulate Rozum and wish her well in retirement.
The festivities included presentations from State Senators Rob Kane and Kevin Kelly, who read a proclamation honoring Rozum, Woodbridge Town Clerk Stephanie Ciarleglio, who gave Rozum a gift on behalf of the Connecticut Town Clerks Association, and James Sheehy, president of the Valley Bar Association, who presented a plaque honoring her service.
