Alleged Dog Thrower Skips Derby Court Date

A Bridgeport man accused of trying to throw his dog off a bridge failed to appear in court Monday, the New Haven Register reported.

Alexander Rosario, 32, is apparently in a hospital, his mother told Judge Burton Kaplan, according to the Register.

Rosario’s new court date is Aug. 20.

Derby police arrested Rosario July 20 after receiving several calls reporting that Rosario was beating his Jack Russell terrier on the Hawkins Street bridge above Route 8.

When police arrived, the dog was dangling from a fence on the bridge.
