Ansonia Aldermen Budget Workshop Tuesday

The Ansonia Aldermen’s finance committee is scheduled to hold a budget workshop Tuesday (May 22) at 6:30 p.m.

The agenda for the meeting says the committee will be discussing the 2018 – 2019 budget in the Erlingheuser Room on the second floor of City Hall, 253 Main St.

According to a message from Board of Aldermen President Lorie Vaccaro, the committee will not be discussing the Aldermen’s controversial move to take $600,000 from the school district’s 2017 – 2018 budget, which has prompted a lawsuit between the city and the Board of Education.

The Aldermen will likely discuss the $600,000 cut to the school district’s budget for the current year at their regular meeting next month, Vaccaro said last week.

Meanwhile, the finance committee is reviewing budget proposals and will eventually send a budget recommendation for next year — 2018 – 2019 — for a vote by the full Board of Aldermen, which has the final say on the city’s annual spending plan.

But the committee will probably not vote on a budget recommendation at Tuesday’s meeting, Vaccaro said.

Tonight is a general discussion,” he said. Nothing regarding the BOE (Board of Education) and nothing controversial.”

All Aldermen’s meetings are open to the public, though the agenda for Tuesday’s workshop does not list a public session.
