Ansonia: Cassetti, Raslan To Debate Monday, Oct. 9

Incumbent Mayor David Cassetti will debate challenger Tarek Raslan in a Valley Indy-organized debate Monday, Oct. 9.

The debate will be streamed live on The Valley Indy’s Facebook page starting at about 11:15 a.m.

The video will also be embedded at the top of ValleyIndy.org Monday.

The audio will be recorded to be shared as a podcast, too.

Cassetti, a Republican, is a two-term incumbent who won his last election in a landslide.

Raslan, a Democrat, is new to politics and Ansonia, but has run an aggressive campaign.

The debate is happening inside The Valley Indy’s office on Main Street.

The debate format is deliberately loose, and will mirror the format previously used by the Indy during a debate between Mayor Anita Dugatto and Alderman Carmen DiCenso.

Each candidate will make opening remarks.

Then the candidates will ask each other three questions, not including follow-up questions.

They will also answer questions from Valley Indy reporter Ethan Fry, who has covered Ansonia government since 2012.

The debate is expected to last between 60 and 90 minutes.

A second, separate debate between the two candidates is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 26 in the Ansonia High School auditorium.

That debate is being organized by the campaigns along with school district staff and students.
