Ansonia Club Donates $5,000 To Griffin 5K

For the fifth-straight year, The Ansonia Rod & Gun Club has generously supported the Annual 5K Walk/Run to Benefit The Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital with a donation of $5,000 to be the event’s finish line sponsor.

The Club’s continued support of the 5K Walk/Run is thanks to the tireless efforts of Treasurer Horace Behrle, a cancer survivor and Volunteer Ambassador at the Center for Cancer Care.

The Center is a very special place for me because I beat cancer here,” Behrle said. Fighting cancer and caring for cancer patients is important to the Ansonia Rod & Gun Club because we’ve lost a few guys to cancer and we know how hard it can be on a person.”

Started in 2009 the 5K Walk/Run to Benefit The Center for Cancer Care has raised more than $240,000 for critical needs of cancer patients such as transportation, groceries and wig and salon services, as well as patient support programs at the Center.

Words can’t describe how thankful we are for the ongoing support of the Ansonia Rod & Gun Club,” said 5K Director Christian Meagher. This event provides on-the-spot support for cancer patients when they need it most, and gives them the hope and strength they need to finish their treatments. It’s the commitment of the Club and all those from the community who come out every year that make it possible for us to go the extra mile for our patients.”

The 5K Walk/Run sponsorship is just one of several ways the Club gives back to the community.

The Club regularly runs gun safety programs for youth in the summer and invites Derby and Ansonia Police Departments to train at the Club’s gun ranges for free – saving both cities the cost of building a range or renting one. Recently, the Club donated $10,000 to the Ansonia Medical Rescue Service for a Utility All-Terrain Vehicle and provided $5,000 to TEAM Inc. for senior services.

The Ansonia Rod and Gun Club has always been a family-oriented organization and we are always looking for ways to give back to our community,” said Club President Warren Connors. The club is home to many men, women and youth that are responsible gun owners always looking to help out those in need. We’re proud of who we are and what we do.”

Sponsor the Griffin 5K

Set for June 6, this will be the seventh year for the Center for Cancer Care 5K Walk/Run, which brings together cancer patients, their family members, and friends, to run or walk through Derby and Ansonia in honor, memory, or celebration of a loved one and their cancer journey. The event has grown from approximately 250 participants in its inaugural year in 2009, to more than 580 participants last October.

The event still has sponsorship opportunities available, include signage at the event, logos on the event promotional materials and T‑shirts, and opportunities to have a table to distribute products at the event or put items, coupons or promotional material in participant give-away bags.
