Ansonia Hosts Day Of Prayer Event May 1

Valley residents are invited to answer the call of prayer on Thursday, May 1 in observance of the 63rd annual National Day of Prayer at 6 p.m. at the Ansonia Veteran’s Memorial Park, located next to Ansonia City Hall at 253 Main St.

The National Day of Prayer affords residents the opportunity to join together to pray for our country, cities, our service men and women (fire, police and military) and our people. It is an unprecedented opportunity to see the Lord’s healing and renewing power made manifest as we call on citizens to humbly come before His throne.

The theme for 2014 is One Voice, United in Prayer, emphasizing the need for individuals, corporately and individually, to place their faith in the unfailing character of their Creator, who is sovereign over all governments, authorities, and men. The theme verse is Romans 15:6: So that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

President Harry Truman designated the first National Day of Prayer in 1952. The event was designated for the first Thursday in May by President Ronald Reagan. President Reagan, on the occasion of the 1982 National Day of Prayer, remarked that prayer has sustained our people in crisis, strengthened us in times of challenge, and guided us through our daily lives since the first settlers came to this continent. Our forbearers came not for gold, but mainly in search of God and the freedom to worship in their own way.”
