Ansonia Man Arrested On Drug And Gun Charges

A 20-year-old Ansonia man was arrested on drug and gun charges Monday.

According to police, officers received a complaint about a group of people smoking marijuana near the intersection of Wakelee Avenue and Clarkson Street.

As officers approached, Tyron Black got out and was told to stay near the vehicle, police said.

An Officer Martins walked toward Black and smelled marijuana and spotted a plastic baggie hanging out of his front pants pocket. A gun fell out of his pocket during a pat down, police said.

The gun was a .380 caliber Taurus handgun and was allegedly stolen in Westport, police said. Black was also carrying marijuana, crack and ecstasy, police said.

Black is charged with weapons in a motor vehicle, carrying and sale of a dangerous weapon, carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of less than 4 ounces of a controlled substance, possession of less than 4 ounces of marijuana, possession with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school zone and possession with intent to sell crack cocaine.

Black has a court date of April 28.

The other men in the vehicle were released from the scene, police said.
