Ansonia Man Shot Three Times

An Ansonia man is in the hospital after being shot Tuesday night on North Cliff Street.

Lt. Andrew Cota said police received 911 calls about 10:20 p.m. reporting shots fired in the area.

Officers responded and were looking for evidence when they were alerted to a man on Rockwood Avenue who had been shot.

Cops and EMS went to the area and found a man who had been shot three times — in the thigh, hip, and lower abdomen.

The victim is described as a 24-year-old man.

Cota said the victim told police two men had shot him after they had tried to rob him, after which he was able to drive to Rockwood Avenue to seek help from a friend.

He was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Cota said Wednesday that police had not yet received an update on the victim’s condition, but that it doesn’t appear at this point that it’s life-threatening.”

The two suspects fled the area in what was described by witnesses as a light-colored compact car.

Cops hope to get a better description of the suspects themselves by talking to the victim again.

Cota asked anyone who has information about the shooting to call 203 – 735-1885 and ask for the department’s detective division.
