Ansonia Police Investigate Baby’s Death

Update July 2: Police said an autopsy has been completed at the office of the Chief Medical Examiner but the baby’s cause of death has not yet been determined.

This case is still active and is still being considered an untimely death pending more information from the ME,” Lt. Andrew Cota said in a prepared statement. No other information is being released at this time.”

Medical examiners determine the cause and manner of death. The information gives guidance to investigators as to how to proceed.

Ansonia police are investigating the death of a 6‑week-old baby girl.

Police released a statement Wednesday afternoon saying they received a 911 call from a resident at 77 Myrtle Ave. saying the baby was unresponsive.

Emergency medical personnel and police responded and saw the baby was not breathing.

The child was tended to by medics and transported to Griffin Hospital. The child was unable to be resuscitated and passed away,” Lt. Andrew Cota said in a prepared statement.

Police are investigating and said an autopsy will be performed July 2. 

A medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

At this time no other details are being released,” Cota said.
