Ansonia Resident Readies Halloween Display For A Good Cause

For the past three years Ansonia resident Ricky Baxter has been building a Halloween display at his family’s 125 Ford St. home and asking trick-or-treaters to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to Spooner House, a local shelter and food bank.

This year Ricky’s display will be accepting donations beginning Oct. 16. The Valley Indy asked Ricky to write a few words about why he started the donation drive. His response is below, along with pictures of the display.

Coming up on our third annual Eerie Manor” yard haunt/display, I’m excited to see what 2015 brings us. Since the first year we have grown a lot. The food drive has been a big success being only the first few years into it, and we hope to continue this as it helps all who are in need within our community.

Since I was younger I have always loved Halloween. I used to go around trick-or-treating with my family and always loved the houses with the decorations and seeing other trick or treaters in their costumes.

As I got older, we knew we wanted to create our own Halloween display. I wanted to create something that would really bring the community together on such an awesome holiday. Since 2013 we have had a blast creating this yard display and doing what we love.

We wanted to create an opportunity for the community to enjoy our Halloween display and also come together to help those in need. When the community comes together for events like this, it is truly a great feeling.

I am in high hope to be able to continue doing our yard display along with the food drive for years to come. In advance, I, and the representatives of Spooner house in Shelton truly appreciate all donations to help those in need.

If you wish to donate, items can be dropped off in the black coffin starting Oct. 16 through Oct. 31. We look forward to seeing all the young trick or treaters on Halloween.
