Ansonia Rotary Club Seeks New Members

The Rotary Club of Ansonia has announced a campaign for new members and issued a report of its annual activities.

At the top of the list of accomplishments was the recognition of Ansonia’s first responders.

Coordinated by Rotarian Cheryl Biros, the event recognizes three men/women who were designated as outstanding members by the City’s three departments: police, fire and EMS.

During the annual Community Services Dinner at Ansonia High School, Police Detective James Frolish, Fire Marshall Ralph Tingley, and ARMS staff Ryan Hunt received plagues from Club President Noille Stewart and commendations from their supervisors and Mayor David Cassetti.

In support of education, the Club members purchased dictionaries for every third grader at Prendergast, Meade and Assumption Schools.

Schools Superintendent and Rotarian Carol Merlone helped distribute and expressed her appreciation for the gifts.

The Club’s annual $1,500 academic scholarship was presented to Paul Makinano, of Ansonia, who is now studying physical therapy at Sacred Heart University, where he also plays football.

To honor veterans, the Club teamed up with the Seymour-Oxford Rotary Club to hold a fundraiser that resulted in $1,200 for Fisher House, to assist them in their goal to house homeless veterans.

The Ansonia Rotary Club meets each Tuesday from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. at CRAVE Restaurant, Main Street, Ansonia. Interested parties are invited to join Club members for lunch. Reservations are not required.
