Ansonia Unified Basketball Team Plays First Game

CONTRIBUTEDAnsonia Public Schools Registrar Mary Lynn Mott forwarded the Valley Indy two photos from Kelly Matute, a health and physical education teacher at the high school, from a unified basketball game held Tuesday.

Unified sports programs allow children with intellectual disabilities the chance to participate in organized team sports at their schools by combining approximately equal numbers of athletes with and without an intellectual disability on sports teams for training and competition.

On Tuesday, a Ansonia High School’s unified basketball team played its first ever game, against a team from Oxford High School.

The game was a huge success and enjoyed by all!” Matute wrote in an email.
