‘Back To Normal’ After Shelton Gas Leak

Employees of Eversource Energy, formerly Yankee Gas, were in the area of the leak through the weekend making sure everything was working alright, a spokesman said.

They may be checking the system, but that’s nothing out of the ordinary,” the spokesman, Mitch Gross, said.

The leak was reported Friday, and forced the evacuation of apartments and a Subway sandwich shop at the corner of Howe Avenue and Bridge Street.

Gross said crews had trouble locating the leak and fixing it because of frigid temperatures that have blanketed the region for weeks.

Typically it’s an underground system and it takes time to find,” he said.

Gross didn’t know when precisely the leak was fixed, or where precisely it was. The cause of the damage was unknown, he said.
