Bicycle Madness This Weekend In Ansonia

Mayor Cassetti extends an invitation to all Valley-area residents and families to attend Ansonia’s annual Bicycle Festival, to be held at Veteran’s Memorial Park, adjacent to City Hall, on Saturday June 25, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Bicycle Festival is a celebration of a little-known piece of Ansonia history,” said Mayor Cassetti. Ansonia resident Pierre Lallement can lay claim to having invented the bicycle back in 1866, with his inaugural ride taking him through our very own Main Street.”

Mayor Cassetti is referring to Lallement’s Velocipede invention — a curious” contraption that evolved into the modern bicycle.

Ansonia’s annual Bike Festival has grown into more than just a celebration of history. An honorary ceremony and historic bicycle demonstration will be accompanied by a very modern BMX stunt show, music by hard rock veterans XYZ revisited and even a unicycle-driven magic show.

The event has something for everyone,” said Mayor Cassetti. There’s the celebration of our tradition, and there’s plenty of fun.”

Mayor Cassetti is slated to declare June 25, 2016 Pierre Lallement Day” in Ansonia.

It’s about time Mr. Lallement got his due,” said Mayor Cassetti. Ansonia should be recognized as home of the bicycle.”
