Cassetti: Stay Off Roads, Check On Your Neighbors

Ansonia Mayor David Cassetti sent the following message about 9:15 p.m. Monday (Jan. 26) regarding the snowstorm hitting the area:

This is Mayor Cassetti with a Code Red alert from the City of Ansonia.

The State of Connecticut is being impacted by a winter blizzard which will continue into late Tuesday. Weather services are forecasting that we will receive well over a foot of snow during the storm with the heaviest of the snow coming over the next 12 hours.

Road crews have begun clearing roadways and this will continue until throughout the storm. Residents are encouraged to limit their driving on city roads during the storm to allow for emergency vehicles and road crews to perform their functions.

  • The EMERGENCY OPERATION CENTER is open and fully staffed. All emergencies including downed wires should be reported to the Ansonia Police Department at 203 – 735-1885.
  • There is a statewide travel ban currently in effect. Any stranded motorists should immediately contact the police department.
  • There is a current parking ban on all city streets until noon on Wednesday. Residents are reminded that no vehicle may be parked on a city street during this time. All public and school parking lots are open for parking.
  • As a reminder, if the use of a generator is needed, please be sure to have it properly ventilated outside of your residence.
  • All exterior vents for furnaces and dryers should be cleared of snow to prevent carbon dioxide build-up.
  • Residents are asked to check on their elderly neighbors who may have difficulty at their residences.

The City of Ansonia will send out further announcements as needed. Thank you.
