Center Stage Announces ‘Peter Pan’ Audition Details

Center Stage artistic director Gary Scarpa has announced that auditions for the Youth CONNection’s summer production of Peter Pan will take place on May 23 at 10 a.m. for high school and college students and May 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for elementary and middle school students.

The Youth CONNection is a theatre program for high school and college students, but this year, children in third grade and older are also eligible to audition since the production calls for child performers.

The classic musical was made famous by Mary Martin, Sandy Duncan, and Cathy Rigby. The play, based on J. M. Barrie’s original story, brings to life Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, the children Wendy, Michael and John, Captain Hook, pirates and Indians, embellished with show-stopping songs, Never Never Land”, I Won’t Grow Up” and I’m Flying”.

Peter and Wendy embark on a magical adventure to Neverland and back, from the safety of the Darlings’ nursery to the underground home of the Lost Boys, the Indians’ encampment, the Mermaid’s lagoon (home of the ticking crocodile) and the pirate ship captained by the dastardly Captain Hook and his fearsome crew! Peter Pan is the perfect show for the child in all who dreamed of soaring high and never growing up.

The Youth CONNection, founded by Gary and Fran Scarpa in 1983, now kicks off each Center Stage Theatre season. Each summer the group presents a major musical at Shelton High School’s Percy Kingsley Auditorium.

The group has performed such musicals as Annie, The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, Hello Dolly, The Music Man, The King and I, Oklahoma!, Brigadoon, South Pacific, Godspell, Anything Goes, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Annie Get Your Gun and Les Miserables, to name a few.

Members of the Youth CONNection have also given benefit performances for civic organizations and worthy causes throughout the state, including Juvenile Diabetes, the American Cancer Society, Hospice, the Ronald McDonald House, AIDS Project New Haven, The American Cancer Society, and Unicef. Youth CONNection productions are known for their energy, excitement, and professionalism.
