Civil War Encampment In Seymour April 26

FILECome experience how Civil War soldiers lived off the battlefield, and how women and other civilians helped them.

In what’s becoming an annual event, the 14th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry, Company F will set up camp in the yard of the Seymour Historical Society on Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The day will include military marching drills, weapons firing demonstrations and firearms displays.

At noon, a cook will explain how soldiers’ meals were prepared. Visitors will also learn about the role of Civil War doctors and nurses, the life of Corporal Joseph Pierce (the highest-ranking Union soldier of Chinese heritage) and the history of the 14th CVI, a unit that participated in 34 battles and skirmishes.

The modern” version of the unit participates in large-scale battle reenactments at Civil War sites in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

The Seymour Historical Society is located at 59 West St. in Seymour.

This event is free to Historical Society members and $5 per person for non-members.
