Police said Derby High School went into lockdown Wednesday after a small-caliber bullet was found in the library.

Police Chief Gerald Narowski said there is no threat to the students or public.

The students will be dismissed today with an increased police presence.

The bullet was found by a student, who brought it to the attention of a staffer, according to school officials.

After the students are gone, police will do a thorough search of the building today as a precaution.

Narowski described the bullet as .22 caliber.

Again, I just want to stress this is not an active situation, and there is no threat to the school or the public,” he said.

School officials sent word to parents earlier today saying the school was in code yellow,” meaning limited movement in the building.”

In an email to The Valley Indy, Superintendent Matthew Conway said this was done out of precaution, due to evidence reportedly found, and we are investigating.”
