Derby Class Creates, Markets “Pink” Shirts

Derby High School sent along this Pink Out” photo as part of The Valley Goes Pink,” a series of events to raise money for the Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness at Griffin Hospital.

Veronica DiLullo, a business teacher at Derby High School, penned the following explanation of the event:

One of my classes runs a school store named Big Red Productions.

This is the third year that Big Red Productions is selling a T‑shirt for Pink Out” day.

Anyone who purchased the T‑shirt wore it on the designated day to school, and to the football game that night.

A dollar from the purchase of each shirt gets donated to The Valley Goes Pink.

There was a school wide contest for this year’s T‑shirt design.

Ten designs were submitted, the Big Red Productions Team narrowed it down to three, and the school voted for this year’s design.

The shirt is themed Pink is the New Red,” red being one of our school’s colors. It was designed by DHS sophomore, Sophia Slowik.

The Pink Out was Friday Oct. 17. We received 50 pre-orders for the t‑shirts and have 80 shirts being made, for additional sales.
