Shelton police issued a prepared statement saying Jonathan Rodriguez, 22, was charged with stealing a firearm.

Police allege Rodriguez stole a gun from a locked car on Canal Street in Shelton in the spring of 2014.

Police did not elaborate on the investigation.

Authorities obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Rodriguez was in a first-floor apartment Sunday at 204 – 206 Derby Ave. when a fire was spotted about 7 a.m.

The fire killed one person, 48-year-old Nilda Ruiz, who lived on the second floor.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
