Derby is opening the city’s Community Center at 35 Fifth St. as a comfort station for residents without power.

Residents with identification will be able to charge electronics and take a shower at the Community Center, which the city deems a “warming station” in a press release.

The Community Center is open now through Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

It will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bring your own toiletries.

As of 2:15 p.m., about 41 percent of all United Iluminating customers in Derby were without power.

UI crews have been all over the city, but no restoration estimates are available as of this writing.

The phone number at the community center is 203-735-4222.

As of 2:23 p.m., Derby Office of Emergency Management officials were staffing the operations center in Derby City Hall while its director was in the city surveying damage.

Much of the power outage in Derby is on the city’s east side. Several traffic lights along Route 34 on the east side of the city are not working.
