Audio: ‘Shots Fired’ In Derby

photo:eugene driscollDerby police responded about 1 p.m. Wednesday to a report of shots fired in the area of Anson and Lafayette streets.

A bevy of officers and detectives scoured the area, and an alert was sent to surrounding towns to be on the lookout for a person riding a moped who may have been connected to the incident.

Derby police did not release information on the incident as of 7 a.m. Thursday.

But emergency recordings revealed a person called police to report a group of males were involved in an altercation and then shots rang out.

There were no obvious sign of injuries at the scene. No ambulances were on site.

Police examined the exterior of buildings on Anson Street, presumably looking for bullet holes.

Much of the police activity was concentrated on Lafayette Street.

A large group of people, including toddlers with their parents, were out and about on the sidewalk as police conducted their investigation. Police departed about 1:30 p.m.

The Valley Indy asked several people on Anson and nearby Fifth Street if they knew or heard what happened. One woman said she heard there may have been a shooting.

The initial audio recordings are embedded below. They are the initial reports of what emergency dispatchers were being told at the moment by the public, then relaying that information to officers.

The recordings are condensed.

This story will be updated if more information becomes available.
