Ethan Fry and I — the two guys behind this website — humbly ask you to support The Valley Indy during The Great Give, scheduled for May 2 and May 3, 2017.
I’ll post direct links to the Valley Indy’s Great Give donation page once the event starts.
The Valley Indy is one of some 400 nonprofit groups participating. Click here to listen to a podcast interview we recently published about the event.
Ethan and I once again plan to stream live video as long as we can during the 36-hour fundraising challenge.
Here’s the first hour from last year’s chaotic, adventure-filled live stream:
This year we’ll use the Valley Indy’s popular Facebook page to host our livestream, and we’re planning to invite nonprofit leaders to our office to talk about what they do and how your money can help.
We’re also planning to take our Great Give act on the road this year by visiting other Valley nonprofits to learn what they’re doing during the event.
The Great Give is hugely important to us.
Last year we raised about $9,000 in individual donations during The Great Give. That represents roughly 6 percent of our budget.
This year we’re specifically asking people to donate at least $100 to us during The Great Give.
It’s not easy to type that, but, let’s face facts — local news is hanging on by a thread, especially in places like the lower Valley, where the streets are not paved with gold.
The media landscape in the lower Valley is strewn with the corpses of outlets such as The Evening Sentinel, WADS, The Valley Gazette, and The Valley Times.
While $100 is a big “ask,” it’s fewer than 30 cents a day.
The money goes to a publication that provides local government coverage, breaking news, streaming video, and two podcasts.
We’ve earned your $100 donation, I hope.
If you’re a business and want to support the community, consider sponsoring The Valley Indy Great Give Webcast.
For $2,500, you’ll be named the sponsor at the top of every hour, and your name will appear at all times during the broadcast.
