Former Derby High School Principal Scheduled For August Court Appearance

The former Derby High School principal accused of stealing from his union’s bank account is scheduled to appear in court again Aug. 31.

Greg Gaillard was arrested by Derby police Feb. 17 and charged with second-degree larceny, a felony, after authorities alleged he misappropriated $13,200 from the administrators’ union, of which he was president.

Discrepancies with the union’s bank account were discovered shortly after Gaillard abruptly quit as Derby High School principal Dec. 9.

Statements from two other Derby school principals in an arrest warrant allege Gaillard said he took the money because he was having financial problems.

Gaillard was earning about $135,000 annually as Derby High School principal.

Gaillard has pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

He was supposed to appear in Derby court Monday, but the appearance was pushed until August.

Discover Bank has also filed a complaint against Gaillard in civil court, alleging he owes about $5,400 in credit card debt.
