Former Malloy Spokesman Who Grew Up In Ansonia Takes New PR Job

A former Ansonia resident who left a job as Gov. Dannel Malloy’s top spokesman last month has taken a new role at a New York City public relations firm.

The former spokesman, Andrew Doba, has joined Stu Loeser & Co., a strategic communications firm” started by Loeser a former spokesman for past New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Doba grew up in Ansonia, and graduated from Ansonia High School in 1997, he told the Valley Indy in a tweet last month.

In November the New York Observer ranked Loeser’s company at 15 out of 50 on a PR POWER LIST” of public relations firms.

The one-time Bloomberg mouthpiece has a lot of clients he can’t talk about, but there’s one victory he can tout: Kicking our mayor’s ass on the charter schools issue,” the Observer gushed. Mr. Loeser’s bare-knuckles approach, political instincts, and deep connections have also been good for business; his three-year-old agency topped $2 million in billings this year.

In response to an email from the Valley Indy, Loeser said his company doesn’t do any government lobbying.

And we’re not going to start,” he said.

In a prepared statement, Loeser said his company, in addition to its headquarters overlooking Bryant Park in Manhattan,” is expanding to an office in Stamford.

Loeser’s firm specializes in developing communications strategies for technology, financial, and philanthropic businesses and leaders, the statement said.

I watched with admiration as Doba’s deft storytelling skills and smart strategies helped Governor Malloy lead Connecticut through some rough waters. I’m thrilled that he is now going to help fuel our firm’s strong growth,” Loeser said in the statement.

Doba, who grew up in Ansonia, said he jumped at the chance to join Loeser’s firm.

I’ve known Stu for a number of years. He’s one of the best in the business,” Doba said. And his team not only understands modern communications, but also successfully delivers for clients in the nation’s toughest media market. I’m excited to start this next chapter and to be a part of his team.”
