Former Shelton Man Sentenced For Bank Robberies

A former Shelton man was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison Thursday for robbing four Chase Bank branches during a two-month spree last year.

Scott Taylor, 47, stole a total of about $24,300 during the spree, U.S. Attorney Deirdre M. Daly said in a prepared statement.

Daly said Taylor robbed:

  • the Chase Bank at 184 Main St. in Westport June 2, 2016;
  • the Chase Bank at 1561 Boston Post Road in Milford June 24, 2016;
  • the Chase Bank at 50 Washington St. in Norwalk July 6, 2016;
  • the Chase Bank at 1855 Main St. in Stratford July 13, 2016.

He was arrested at the Stratford train station shortly after the July 13 stickup with $998 in cash and 33 folds” of heroin on him, Daly said.

He has been behind bars since, and pleaded guilty January 30 to a single count of bank robbery before U.S. District Judge Vanessa L. Bryant, who handed down a 188-month sentence to Taylor Thursday (July 20).

During each of the heists, Daly said, Taylor handed a teller a note demanding cash and that he had a gun.

Taylor has several prior convictions on his record for bank robberies, and was only released from prison in 2016 after serving 12 years of a 20-year sentence for a 2005 heist in Milford.

In her statement, Daly thanked state prosecutors for the Judicial Districts of Ansonia/Milford, Fairfield and Stamford/Norwalk for their assistance and cooperation.
