Goodmaster FOI Complaint Is Over

Seymour Police Detective Sgt. Ron Goodmaster’s Freedom of Information complaint against three Seymour police commissioners will be formally dismissed at a meeting of the Freedom of Information Commission Wednesday (May 9).

The meeting happens more than a month after Goodmaster and the Town of Seymour came to a settlement over several complaints Goodmaster had with the department.

Goodmaster was suspended twice and demoted.

In response, he had filed several complaints pending against the department. Click here to read about the dispute between Goodmaster and the police department.

To avoid legal costs, Goodmaster and the town penned the agreement on March 20. Click here to read the New Haven Register coverage of the meeting.

As part of that settlement, Goodmaster dropped several complaints he had pending against the town — including grievances through the union, a complaint with the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities, and his Freedom of Information complaint alleging three police commissioners held an illegal meeting to talk about him.

In return, the town reversed Goodmaster’s demotion and suspensions.

Goodmaster withdrew his FOI complaint on March 28. The complaint likely would have been dismissed anyway, based on a hearing officer’s report saying Goodmaster did not prove his claims about the illegal meeting.

His file is scheduled to be discussed as a formality at the FOI Commission meeting Wednesday, according to an agenda for the meeting.

Thomas Hennick, spokesman for the commission, said the commission will accept the withdrawal request and dismiss the complaint as a result. The hearing officer’s report will not be part of the file, Hennick said.
