Ansonia police found a seriously injured man at the scene of an attempted burglary in the city’s north end.

According to a prepared statement from Lt. Patrick Lynch, about 3:26 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 17) a resident of the area called police to report that someone was trying to break into the Ansonia Mini-Mart at 147 N. Main St.

The caller reported a silver van involved in the incident,” Lynch said. The first officer on scene saw a light colored van leaving the scene at a high rate of speed and a male down in the road. The male, who was suffering from a head injury, was transported to the hospital where he was listed in serious condition.”

Police did not identify the injured man.

Lynch said the van, which had been stolen out of Bridgeport, was later found unoccupied near the crime scene.

Detectives are now trying to figure out whether the injured man was connected to the van seen fleeing the scene, Lynch said.

Police asked anyone with information to call 203 – 735-1885.
