Man Dies In Shelton Fire

GOOGLE EARTHOne person is dead after a fire on Hull Street in Shelton early Saturday.

According to a prepared statement from police, the department received several 911 calls about a fire at a commercial building at 33 Hull St. at about 5 a.m.

Upon arrival Shelton police and fire discovered the fourth floor of the building was fully engulfed in flames,” according to the statement.

Police found the body of 69-year-old Shelton resident Randol Rios at the foot of the building, badly burned.

Detectives discovered Rios was an employee of Machine Builders of New England who occupied the fourth floor of the building,” police said.

Rios apparently jumped from the fourth floor to escape the flames.

He was pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital.

A Shelton firefighter was also injured fighting the fire and was transported to the hospital where he was treated for injuries and released,” the statement read.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Shelton Police Department, Shelton Fire Marshal’s Office and the Connecticut Fire Marshal’s Office.
