Man Injured In Derby Crane Accident

A worker was injured Tuesday during a crane accident in the parking lot of St. Mary’s Church on Elizabeth Street in Derby.

The man suffered severe head trauma, according to Derby police spokesman Lt. Sal Frosceno.

The man’s name was not released. He was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital.

Further information on his condition was not available. A woman in this story’s comment section identifying herself as the man’s sister said he is doing well.

Police said the man worked for the Summit Crane Co. in Bristol.

Officials from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration were sent to the scene, agency spokesman Ted Fitzgerald said.

The crane’s boom broke, according to an email from Fitzgerald, though the victim’s sister said it was the crane’s jib that broke, not the boom.

A state crane inspector responded to the scene as well.
