Demolition on the McDonald’s restaurant at 44 Division St. started Wednesday.
A new McDonald’s will be put in its place — but minus the flooding problems that have plagued the restaurant for years.
The property sits like the bottom of a bowl on Division Street, resulting in parking lot and basement flooding during heavy rain.
The new McDonald’s will be roughly the same size and the building that was just razed — though it will be built at a higher elevation.
The new restaurant will also have two drive-thru lanes.
The $2.5 million project is expected to be finished by mid-December.
