McGorty Wins Special Election For 122nd State House District

Republican Ben McGorty won a special election Tuesday (July 22) for the 122nd State House of Representatives seat formerly held by Larry Miller, who died May 31, according to the Shelton Herald.

McGorty, a Shelton resident, defeated Arlene Liscinsky, also a Shelton resident, to represent the district, which contains parts of Shelton, Trumbull, and Monroe.

He celebrated the victory with about 50 supporters at Vazzy’s restaurant, the Herald reported.

McGorty carried Shelton in Tuesday’s election by a margin of about three to one, garnering 1,016 votes to Liscinsky’s 337.

McGorty told the Herald he needs to keep the momentum from Tuesday’s victory going for an Aug. 12 Republican primary in the district.

If he wins next month, he’ll stand for reelection in November for a full two-year term in the legislature.
