Miller-Kane Eating Contest To Benefit Meals On Wheels

Seymour First Selectman W. Kurt Miller and state Sen. Rob Kane have agreed to participate in a taco-eating contest at Hot Tamale Mexican Grille and Bar on Cinco de Mayo to benefit Meals on Wheels.

The officials will devour as many tacos as possible in five minutes and five seconds.

What does the winner receive? Slightly more indigestion than the loser, soothed by the knowledge that they were victorious.

I’m not afraid of a few tacos, especially if it’s in the name of charity,” Miller said. We are raising money for a great cause at a wonderful business in our community and I’m really looking forward to it. It’s a shame Sen. Kane has no chance, but I thank him in advance for participating. I encourage everyone to stop by and make a donation if they can.”

Meals on Wheels provides hot, nutritious meals to homebound seniors and people with disabilities in our communities, allowing them to continue to live independently in their homes.

Throughout the Valley, Meals on Wheels and TEAM Inc.’s drivers deliver meals to hundreds of clients per day.

The Meals on Wheels staff and volunteers are a tremendous asset to all of our communities,” Sen. Kane said. They work tirelessly to help our most vulnerable residents. This contest at a great restaurant like Hot Tamale is a way for us to say thank you’ to them and to show them how much they are appreciated. Let’s raise as much money as we can. Every dollar counts. I look forward to the contest, I have already begun intensive training and I know First Selectman Miller will remain gracious in defeat.”

The May 5 contest kicks off at 6 p.m. at Hot Tamale Mexican Grille and Bar, located at 39 New Haven Road, Seymour.
