Miller: Seymour Roads Open Again, But Be Careful

Seymour First Selectman Kurt Miller announced Tuesday (Jan. 27) afternoon that local roads would be open at 3 p.m. and town buildings will open Wednesday (Jan. 28).

The text of Miller’s message to residents via the Code Red emergency notification system is below.

This is Seymour First Selectman Kurt Miller with a storm update utilizing the Code Red System.

Thankfully, the storm was not as bad as projected. Estimates for the amount of snow range from 10 to 14 inches. Conditions have been improving over the last few hours and we expect that to continue.

The state wide blizzard warning has been cancelled and replaced with a Winter Storm Warning. We will be closing the Emergency Operations Center and following the lead of the Governor, we will re-open all town roads effective at 3 p.m. today.

If you do need to go out, please do so with caution. Roads are still slippery and with expected low temperatures tonight, they will continue to be that way.

We have cleared much of the snow on all main roads and are working to finish up the side roads and streets. Once that is complete, we will open all of our schools and municipal buildings to prepare for tomorrow. I expect this work to continue into the evening.

All municipal buildings will be open tomorrow. I will speak with the Superintendent later today to discuss the schedule of the Seymour School System and a separate announcement will go out for parents.

Fire Department crews will be out tonight clearing fire hydrants that are in need.

I would like to personally thank all of our Emergency Services personnel and our DPW crew for their hard work and dedication throughout this storm. Most have been up and working since yesterday and their effort is greatly appreciated. They have certainly made a potentially bad situation much easier to deal with.

If anything changes, I will communicate that to you. Again, I would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding during the storm. Thank you and have a great night.
