One-Car Wreck On Route 8 South In Shelton

Firefighters had to use the jaws of life” to cut a person out of a vehicle on Route 8 Friday morning.

State police said the person in the vehicle did not have life threatening injuries.

Just before 8 a.m. Echo Hose Hook and Ladder, a fire company in Shelton, posted on Facebook saying they were at a crash on Route 8 south between exits 11 and 12. 

They advised motorists to avoid that stretch of the highway. Traffic was backed up to the Pershing Drive ramps in Derby. Echo Hose provided updated info at 9:40 a.m. Friday.

As of 9 a.m., heavy backups were still being reported on both Route 8 south and on Bridgeport Avenue in Shelton, the road that runs parallel to the highway. According to Total Traffic Hartford, it was taking 13 minutes to get from Pershing Drive to exit 11 on Route 8 south.

Additional information, such as the name of the driver, wasn’t immediately available.
