A judge on Tuesday continued the criminal case against an Oxford man accused of murdering his wife and shooting his mother-in-law so the man’s lawyer can try to obtain medical records.
Scott Gellatly, 47, appeared briefly before Judge Frank Iannotti at Superior Court in Milford.
Gellatly’s lawyer, Public Defender David Egan, asked the judge to continue the case so he could file a motion within “the next day or so.”
“Basically we’re having some problems obtaining some medical records,” Egan said, without being more specific. “If it’s necessary to get a court order to do so, then we’ll do it.”
Judge Iannotti told Egan he’d review the motion and rule on it when Gellatly returns to court May 12. He indicated he may review the records in question himself before making a ruling.
Gellatly has been jailed since May 7, 2014, when state cops said Gellatly shot and killed his wife, Lori Jackson, in a Sioux Drive home about 5:45 a.m. as the couple’s twin infants slept a floor above.
He also allegedly shot his mother-in-law, Merry Jackson. She survived the attack.
The shooting set off a statewide manhunt, with state troopers eventually finding Gellatly trying to poison himself with carbon monoxide in the parking lot of a defunct Winsted chicken restaurant.
Gellatly pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, attempted murder, first-degree assault, home invasion, first-degree burglary, and first-degree robbery about a month after his arrest.
Egan told Judge Iannotti at one of Gellatly’s prior appearances that a psychiatric evaluation of Gellatly was under way in the case.
Gellatly remains held on $2 million in the case.
