Pair Of Teens Face Multiple Charges In Shelton Car Theft

A pair of teens from Ansonia and Derby face a long list of criminal charges after allegedly assaulting a man and taking his car Shelton.

According a statement released Friday (Sept. 5) by police, a 52-year-old man was approached by the teens outside his residence in Shelton on Thursday (Sept 4).

They told the man they needed help, because one of them was injured.

They asked the man if he could give them a ride to a hospital. The good samaritan agreed to help, cops said.

Once in the car, the pair asked the driver to take them to go a nearby residence instead. of the hospital.

Once there the boys attacked the man and stole his vehicle, according to police.

Police said they took the man’s car, along with his cell phone and car keys.

The victim suffered minor injuries.

As the victim walked toward the Bridgeport Avenue commuter lot looking for a phone to call for help, the pair allegedly drove by in his car and honked the horn, taunting the man they had allegedly just attacked.

About an hour later, Shelton cops spotted the stolen car, but the pair took off and managed to elude capture — for a short time, at least.

Detectives continued the investigation, and with assistance from the Ansonia and Derby police departments, were able to identify the two suspects in the case,” according to Shelton Lt. Robert Kozlowsky, the department’s spokesman.

At about 5 p.m. Thursday, police arrested Todd Skeens, 18, of Derby.

He’s charged with second-degree robbery, second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, second-degree larceny, third-degree assault, and conspiracy to commit third-degree assault.

Skeens was scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court in Derby Friday (Sept. 5).

The second suspect, an Ansonia resident, was caught after a brief struggle with police.

His name was not released because he is 17, but he is charged with everything Skeens was charged with — plus engaging police in pursuit and interfering with an officer.

More arrests may be forthcoming for Skeens and the juvenile related to other incidents,” according to Kozlowsky.
