UPDATED STORY HERE

Two people were struck by a vehicle at about 1 a.m. Thursday morning.

It happened on the Derby-Shelton bridge. The Valley Indy sent e-mails to Derby police Friday morning seeking more information.

A police officer on scene called the injuries in, according to emergency radio transmissions.

WTNH, citing witnesses the news outlet did not name, reported a SUV struck two people then drove away.

The extent of the injuries wasn’t clear Thursday morning. However, a radio transmission from the scene stated one person suffered an obvious hip injury.

Both people were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Local bars were packed last night with people celebrating the holiday. Thanksgiving Eve is often referred to locally as “Valley New Year’s.”

Ambulance crews were sent to Smith Street in Derby at the same time for a medical emergency.
