Police Investigate Attempted Theft Of Fire Department Christmas Tree

Ansonia police are investigating a bizarre hit-and-run that unfolded Friday at the Hilltop Hose Co. on the Pulaski Highway.

According to a short email from police Lt. Andrew Cota, police received a report of a person attempting to steal a Christmas tree from the fire company at about 4:30 p.m.

The person, a woman who hasn’t been arrested yet, left the scene like a driver in a demolition derby.

(At) some point the person driving the struck a fireman who was in the lot and then fled the lot,” Cota said in a message.

The firefighter was not seriously injured.

The driver also allegedly struck a large truck while leaving the scene. She was found a short time later on Macintosh Lane.

The vehicle had sustained serious damage,” Cota said. The case is still under investigation and an arrest is pending.”

The name of the firefighter was not released.
